Last week, we featured Android 4.4 KitKat ROM ported from the Nexus 5.  Well, this week Google has released the official version of Android 4.4 KitKat KRT16O stock firmware.

I actually personally prefer the ported version from last week as it comes with the latest KitKat launcher whereas the official version ships with an older launcher.  With the official version PhotoSphere works out of the box.

Well, that’s a big surprise because it seems like the ported version is better.  But I know many of you who want to be on official version as it’s more “official” plus there’s probably zero bugs (although I have not found a bug on the ported version).

Either way, you can get the Android 4.4 KitKat official stock firmware for the Nexus 4 along with root by flashing the ZIP version in CWM recovery.

So, definitely check it out if you are into official firmware and do let me know which is better, the official or ported version.

        OK. But consider This scenario.
I would like to upgrade from a 4.2 ROOTED to a 4.4 STOCK NOT ROOTED
in this case I will be able to make a full backup from the 4.2 rooted with titanium backup, but what about restore it from the 4.4 NOT ROOTED?
        Will it work ?

  6. Cal says:

I’ve updated cwm to as recommended and made a nandroid backup.
But the backup is located under the root directory on the Nexus 4, which is not visible under ‘Android File Transfer’ on my mac!
This is the file path on the Nexus 4: /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup

Q: How do I copy out my Nandroid backup from my phone to my mac via the usb cable?
