For this week’s ROM of the week, check out Android L Preview ROM for your Nexus 4!
I know, I know, many of you have been waiting patiently and it just came out last night! Best news? This version is nearly identical to the original Android L Preview firmware on Nexus 5 that I have also.
Thanks to XDA user Sykopompos from Filthydelphia, we have a fully-working Android L Preview ROM on the Nexus 4!
What is it?
This is a developer’s preview version of upcoming Android 5.0 dubbed “L Preview” for now. Originally only available as flashable firmware on Nexus 5 or Nexus 7, now it is available Nexus 4 thanks to open-source developers.
There’s a brand, new keyboard (which you can also install on any rooted Android device btw), lockscreen notifications (you’ve probably seen this on custom ROMs but hey, Google is finally listening to hardcore users like us), and some more, you can check out my Android L Preview video if you’ve never heard of this yet.
Just a note, you may find some apps such as Twitter that doesn’t work on Android L Preview ROM, but most apps I have tested work fine otherwise. You can still use it as daily driver as phone calls/SMS/GPS/bluetooth/camera are working fine but do make a backup ROM before installing this ROM so you can always restore back if you find problems like not being able to run your favorite apps that you absolutely need on daily basis.
Overall, very nice work to XDA user Sykopompos, please don’t forget to donate to him for all his hard work for porting this from Nexus 5 and do let me know what you think of Android L Preview!
(No Gapps needed)
To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)

*Note – Please make sure you have latest CWM that’s compatible with KitKat ROMs. If you’ve never installed KitKat ROMs, update your CWM/TWRP recovery first!
